NONA CHESS BY ANNABELLE KLUTE

e15 introduces a refined and well considered set of chess accessories. NONA chess is a set of handcrafted wooden figures and board in natural harness leather, designed by German industrial designer and goldsmith Annabelle Klute.

Rooted in historic narratives the sculptural figures are an ode to the enduring strategic game. As a timely and welcomed pause from the digital world, the board game invites human interaction and creative thinking.

NONA is named in appreciation of the first woman to be awarded the International Grandmaster title in 1978.

NONA CHESS FIGURES / NONA CHESSBOARD / PONTE TABLE / HOUDINI CHAIR

NONA chess figures illustrate a decisive cut and minimum design intervention to create each character. The wooden chess figures are hand-made in Germany and are finished in clear and black lacquered oak with felt gliders.
Each figure is inspired by the moves it can make and is developed with attention to proportion and scale in relation to the corresponding chessboard NONA in harness leather, which is available separately.

Chessboard NONA is a tactile and generous playing surface crafted from two layers of natural harness leather with precise stitching and waxed edges. The refined leather construction is intended to gain a beautiful patina with time and use. When not in use, it is a beautiful piece to leave on a table or an intriguing object to lean on a shelf or display wall.

“Some years ago, I designed and made a set of chess figures for my partner as a Christmas present. We had purchased e15’s CALVERT CHESS table by Ferdinand Kramer for our home, which became a point of inspiration and reason to further develop the chess set for e15.” Annabelle Klute
