In autumn 2014, e15 celebrates two decades of the original solid wood table BIGFOOT™. As part of the brand’s wider 20th anniversary celebrations in 2015, e15 marks the table’s significance, remaining popularity and status as a recognised design icon. A limited BIGFOOT™ Anniversary Edition with artwork by Canadian artist Geoff McFetridge presents the first anniversary highlight.
BIGFOOT™ is e15’s first product and remains to be an enduring brand icon. Designed in 1994 by e15 co-founder and architect Philipp Mainzer, a radical, new simplicity characterised the design of the table leaving an indelible mark in the evolution of contemporary furniture design. From solid European oak, he table’s essential forms boldly lay bare all natural markings and character istics, thus establishing a leading reputation for e15 for the pioneering use of solid wood in its purest form.
Today BIGFOOT™ is considered the quintessential solid wood table, the benchmark for all others. Like no other table, BIGFOOT™ reconciles apparent contradictions such as rawness and elegance, tradition and innovation, style and functionality. Using traditional craft knowledge as well as state-of-the-art manufacturing methods, thousands of BIGFOOT™s have been built. It is also the central point of reference for all other e15 tables.
For e15, the anniversary of this iconic table is a central theme during the brand’s 20th anniversary in 2015 and will constitute the start of a variety of special exhibitions, collaborations and editions.
Presenting the first highlight, e15 collaborates with artist and illustrator Geoff McFetridge. The renowned LA-based artist works across a great variety of media including graphic design, illustration and animation for clients such as Sophia Coppola, Patagonia, Nike and the New York Times among others. His works are part of several museum exhibitions including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and V1 Gallery in Copenhagen where he recently presented a solo exhibition showing 13 new paintings on canvas. For e15, Geoff McFetridge created the artwork for the E15 SELECTED object MONSTER DICE in 2007.
For the brand’s 20th anniversary, Geoff McFetridge creates a limited edition BIGFOOT™ using laser etching. Covering the entire underside of the table, the artwork focuses on the table’s patron, the creature Bigfoot that people believe inhabits forests, mainly in the region of North America. The special edition BIGFOOT™ is a limited edition of 94 tables in 2.30 x 0.92 m in European oak. The edition number refers to the year of the table’s design. Each BIGFOOT™ table is branded with a stainless steel plaque, holding authenticating product information as well as the signature of Philipp Mainzer, the designer of the original BIGFOOT™. A numbered A2 print showing the artwork is provided with every purchase of the edition table.
In addition, accompanying merchandising material will be made available.
