The step from a monochromatic into a fantastic, colourful world is at the core of e15’s exhibition concept for the Featured Editions at imm cologne 2017. Inspired by the duality of textiles, the possibility to express emotions and personality through colour, the presentation aims at showing visitors, how the choice of a textile also frames a state of mind and expresses individual taste.
With its reduced, archetypal shape, sofa KERMAN by Philipp Mainzer and Farah Ebrahimi presents a canvas to project awareness and aspirations. The exhibition design with a centric mirror playfully reflects contrasts: the grey sofa landscape on one side seems conservative and one-dimensional, but also represents classic elegance. Like in Lewis Caroll’s novel “Through the looking glass” (1871), the visitor dives into another world behind the mirror. There, an identical sofa combination is upholstered with a bright, imaginative fabric. What some might perceive as inspiring and daring, others will find exaggerated and kitschy.
Two contrary worlds are facing each other – both strong and independent. The worlds emerge from shades, textures, through the projection of a vision. Textiles and colours are oftentimes considered at the end of a design process, even though they are among the most prominent characteristic and therefore decisive for the overall impression.
