Designed by Finnish-born designer Jonas Lutz, lounge chair ILMA highlights the beauty of natural materials and bold simplicity. The solid wood frame is crafted from European oak or walnut and is coupled with soft and robust harness leather in natural, brandy or black. ILMA is a refined and modern interpretation of a sling chair with tacit playfulness that serves diverse environments.
“I have always been fascinated by chairs that forgo the traditional foam upholstery and instead look for alternative ways to create a comfortable seat. As I see it, the aim of a chair is to suspend a body in air and that is really the essence of what the Ilma chair does.” Jonas Lutz
ILMA is the Finnish word for Air.
Finnish-born designer Jonas Lutz creates objects of bold simplicity and elegant solutions, often with a tacit playfulness. Jonas Lutz studio is located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He studied at the Carl Malmsten furniture school in Stockholm, Sweden, and has a bachelor in design from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Jonas finds inspiration in Nordic furniture traditions as well as in the lively design culture of his adopted country of the Netherlands. Fuelled by an upbringing in a creative milieu his instinct and sensibility in the work with materials intimates that of a sculptor’s act. This act is much replicated in the way he gives himself design briefs triggering investigations of materials and concepts, often inspired by objects of use in his home.
