The building was already there: an empty office tower in the middle of Taipei’s Nai Hu commercial district. At first glance, it appeared less than an ideal place for Taiwan’s first private academy dedicated entirely to the creative arts, design and culture. Developing the ideal concept for the ten-story Xue Xue Institute was one of the largest and most challenging interior design projects Philipp Mainzer and his “Design Services” team had ever encountered. Central to e15’s concept was the idea of promoting communication between different user groups to enhance interdisciplinary exchange as a basis for better working and learning – away from traditional podium-style lecturing towards a more active and lively exchange of ideas between professors and students.
